3 steps
Two servers on opposite flanks. The ball switches sides and the goalkeeper must reposition before the second server shoots or crosses. Pass speed determines the time available.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- Start moving with the pass, not when the ball arrives — half a second here is worth metres.
- The path is an arc, not a straight line along the goal line: keep the right distance to goal throughout.
- Arrive set and stationary. Arriving in motion is the classic error in this situation.
- An aerial switch gives more time but also raises the chance of a cross — adjust depth accordingly.
Progressions
- Switch by long aerial ball, with a come-or-stay decision at the end.
- Speed up the pass between servers, compressing adjustment time.
- Add a third server, making the destination unpredictable.
Regressions
- Slow pass, with comfortable time to reposition.
- End without a shot, judging only the repositioning.
