CrossesAnalyticTechnique
High-load crossing block
Accumulate volume of come-outs and high catches on a higher-demand training day, alternating cross origin and target post to avoid predictable patterns.

A server crosses in a series from one side and then the other, alternating near and far post. The goalkeeper comes out to attack the ball at the highest point the trajectory allows.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- Attack the ball at its highest point, don’t wait for it to drop to a more comfortable zone.
- The come-out call happens before the jump, never once already airborne.
- Protect the ball with the body on landing, especially with simulated attackers nearby.
- Fully recover breathing between reps before the next series — this block accumulates real volume.
Progressions
- Reduce the time between crosses, increasing density.
- Introduce a low obstacle simulating a defender jumping near the goal line.
Regressions
- Increase recovery time between reps.
- Always keep the same origin and target post.
