Two centre-backs receive from the goalkeeper with attackers pressing in growing numbers. If the team loses the ball during build-up, the attackers immediately attack the goal.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- The exit-side decision is made before the ball reaches the goalkeeper, from reading pressure on each centre-back.
- Under real pressure the pass is firmer and lower than in an analytic drill — the ball has to beat the pressure, not just arrive.
- If both short lanes are closed, the next decision is a direct ball, not forcing the short option regardless.
- After losing the ball, the first instinct is narrowing the angle immediately, not protesting the decision.
Progressions
- Press from the restart whistle, without waiting for the ball to clearly leave the box.
- Reduce to one available centre-back.
Regressions
- Delay attacker pressure until the ball clearly leaves the box.
- Allow three touches during build-up.
