2 steps
A build-up game where the goalkeeper is the piece that creates the plus-one. They receive from the centre-backs, orient the body and distribute to the free side, keeping the ball under opponent pressure.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- The goalkeeper is the plus-one: their oriented reception turns a 2v2 into a 3v2 in favour.
- Always open the body to see both centre-backs and the field before the ball arrives.
- The decision comes from reading the pressure: play to the side the opponent doesn’t shut.
- Talk during the build-up — telling the centre-backs who is free speeds up the whole team’s decision.
Progressions
- Move to 3v2 with a tighter decision.
- Reduce the build-up space.
Regressions
- 3v1 with a comfortable build-up.
- Give more time between passes.
