A shot from distance with one or two players obstructing the sightline. The goalkeeper adjusts position to see as much as possible and reacts to the ball the instant it appears between the bodies.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- Adjust half a step to the side to open a sightline, even at the cost of leaving centre slightly.
- Weight on the toes and hands ready: with a screened view, the reaction must be instant when the ball appears.
- Don’t guess the side before seeing — committing blind on a shot from distance is nearly always a goal.
- If the ball vanishes behind the bodies, play the hands to the last seen trajectory, protecting the goal.
Progressions
- Two bodies, heavily screened view.
- Increase the shot speed.
Regressions
- One body partially screening.
- Lower the shot speed.
