Footwork and movementAnalyticTechnique
Shuffle with the ball on the far side (u12)
Keep the feet shuffling and the body ready when the ball switches sides — shuffling with the ball on the far side was under-trained and is where young goalkeepers tend to stop their feet.

2 steps
Two servers on opposite sides. The goalkeeper shuffles to track the ball on one side and, when it is played to the other, must switch sides and save without crossing the feet early.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- The feet never stop completely — they shuffle in small continuous adjustments.
- When switching sides, the first step is with the foot nearest the new direction.
- Keep the shoulders square to the ball during the switch, don’t rotate the body too soon.
- Arrive balanced on the new side, weight distributed and ready to push off.
Progressions
- Switch sides faster.
- Shoot immediately after the switch.
Regressions
- Announced, slow side switch.
- Bring the servers closer.
