4v4 with a communication scoring system
Test communication in a real game context, with a scoring criterion that makes it visible and trainable, not just a game by-product.

4v4 in a reduced space with a full goal and goalkeeper. An observer (the coach or an outside player) awards or removes points based on the quality and timing of the goalkeeper’s calls.
Coaching points
- A call is worth as much for its timing as for its content — the right words too late don’t score.
- Distinguish organisational calls (constant) from emergency calls (rare and louder).
- Communicate with teammates outside direct sight too, not only those nearby.
- Keep communicating even after conceding — that’s when verbal discipline is most often lost.
Progressions
- Reduce the space, raising the frequency of decisions per minute.
- Require calls on set pieces too.
- Play without the observer, reviewing on video afterwards.
Regressions
- Increase the space, giving more time to decide the call.
- Reduce to 3v3.
