The coach serves and manages the breaks.
Four defenders against three attackers in a widened midfield zone, with no finishing — the focus is purely on organisation and the goalkeeper’s pressing command through the possession.
Coaching points
- The pressing trigger comes from concrete cues — a poor touch, a slow pass, the ball in a wide channel — not an internal clock.
- The call is short and immediate: "press" or "drop", not a sentence that arrives too late to be useful.
- If the block doesn’t react to the first call, repeat it immediately with more volume, don’t assume it was heard.
- After winning the ball back, command the transition to possession right away, not only the defensive phase.
Progressions
- Share part of the trigger decision with the defensive captain, requiring synchronisation between the two.
- Increase to four attackers.
Regressions
- Reduce to two attackers.
- Mark fixed zones on the ground to simplify the trigger moment.
