Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- Make yourself big with arms away from the body, not tucked in — it covers more area without losing balance.
- Slow the approach as the distance closes, to arrive balanced at the decision moment.
- Delay the final commitment as long as possible: committing early gives the attacker the easy decision to go around.
- Wide base of support at the moment of the block, without jumping.
Progressions
- Increase the attacker’s dribbling speed.
- Remove the cone, requiring a read with no fixed reference.
- Let the attacker choose between shooting and dribbling past.
Regressions
- Attacker dribbles at walking pace, focus only on the goalkeeper’s posture.
- Fix the exact moment to come out in advance.
