Corner organisation with early reading
Read anticipatory cues in the corner-taker’s run-up before ball contact — recent research shows more skilled goalkeepers recognise these patterns earlier, gaining real reaction time.

1 steps
A corner-taker delivers varying types of corners, with no prior announcement. The goalkeeper organises the box before each delivery, reading the run-up to anticipate trajectory before contact even happens.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- Reading starts in the run-up and the taker’s body angle, not once the ball is already in the air.
- Box organisation — posts, marks — happens before the taker starts the run-up, not midway through it.
- A wrong early read is worse than no read — committing too early closes options a later read would still have.
- Communicate positioning to defenders as soon as organisation is done, not while waiting for the cross.
Progressions
- Increase the number of possible corner types.
- Reduce the time between consecutive corners.
Regressions
- Announce the corner type before each delivery.
- Reduce to a single fixed corner type.
