2 steps
A centre-back returns to the goalkeeper with a presser closing. The reception must already orient the ball to the free side, resolving before the pressure arrives.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- Open the body before the ball arrives, to receive already facing the field and see the outlet.
- The first touch takes the ball away from pressure to the free side; never control to the feet under pressure.
- Decide before receiving — the head lifts and picks the outlet while the ball is still travelling.
- If the outlets shut, a clean touch away is a mature decision; forcing under pressure is how goals are conceded.
Progressions
- Immediate pressure on the reception.
- Shut one of the outlet lines.
Regressions
- Pressure arriving late.
- Widen the space between centre-backs.
