Backpedal and tip the chip over the bar
Combine the fast retreat with the high deflection to save the chip when the goalkeeper is advanced — combines two thin topics in the save that most punishes an advanced position.

2 steps
From an advanced position, on the chip cue, the goalkeeper backpedals facing the ball and tips it over the bar in full retreat, never turning the back.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- Retreat facing the ball, with short steps under the body — turning the back loses the chip.
- In the final steps, load the legs to jump up and back and reach the ball.
- Tip over the bar with the hand, guiding the ball out, never punching without control.
- Keep the eyes on the ball throughout the retreat, to judge the contact point on the jump.
Progressions
- Well advanced, long retreat.
- Reduce the chip warning.
Regressions
- Slightly advanced.
- Lower the chip height.
