A server strikes from outside the box, straight at the goalkeeper, with few reps and full recovery between each. No contest and no obstructed sight.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- A deeper, higher set position than for a close shot — the extra reaction time allows stepping to meet the trajectory.
- Read the striker’s standing foot and contact point, not only the ball in flight.
- Few reps at maximum quality; stop at the first sign of the read losing sharpness.
- Catch whenever the trajectory allows it — this is not the day to risk an unnecessary punch.
Progressions
- Alternate between low and mid-height trajectory without warning.
- Move the server back to 22 metres.
Regressions
- Bring the server closer.
- Always announce the trajectory.
