The coach serves and manages the breaks.
3 steps
The goalkeeper makes a save and has a few seconds to launch one of two attackers in transition. A defender conditions one side. A point is scored if the attacker reaches the mini goal.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- Reading who is free starts before the save — looking only after gathering the ball has already lost the transition.
- Throwing is faster and more accurate up to 25-30 metres; beyond that, use the feet.
- Release ahead of the teammate, into space, not to their feet — the ball must be playable at speed.
- If neither is free, holding the ball is the right call: a badly launched transition gives possession back.
Progressions
- Cut to 3 seconds, forcing the read before the save.
- Require distribution with the feet only, slower and more demanding.
- Add a second conditioning defender.
Regressions
- Unlimited time to distribute.
- Remove the defender, leaving both attackers always free.
