Pre-match concentration routine
Consolidate, at low volume and with no new technical demand, the short mental routine between actions the goalkeeper will use in the match — the goal is the reset gesture, not the catch.
Choose a session and the exercise is added to today’s plan.

1 steps
Simple, easy-to-save services, one at a time, with a pause between them. In that pause the goalkeeper always performs the same short routine — breath, gesture, word — before the next service.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- Technical difficulty is deliberately low: what’s being assessed is routine consistency, not the catch.
- The routine has to fit the real time available between match actions — if it takes longer, it isn’t usable.
- Repeat the same sequence every time, even when the catch is fumbled, so the routine doesn’t depend on the outcome.
- End the session with a clean catch and the full routine, so that’s the last memory before the match.
Progressions
- Introduce a brief distraction (noise, a comment) before the routine, testing resilience to it.
- Reduce the time available between services.
Regressions
- Widen the time between services.
- Allow a free routine instead of a fixed gesture.
