Vocabulary and voice projection
Work voice and communication vocabulary as an isolated skill, before putting it at the service of a game decision — especially with young goalkeepers, for whom shouting does not come naturally.
Choose a session and the exercise is added to today’s plan.

The coach serves and manages the breaks.
The coach moves progressively further away and raises a hand asking for a call. The goalkeeper responds with the correct call from the agreed vocabulary, loud enough to carry the marked distance.
Coaching points
- Short calls, always the same ones: “keeper”, “away”, “push up”, “hold”, “time”. Inconsistent vocabulary is never learned.
- The voice comes from the diaphragm, not the throat — shouting from the throat means hoarse by twenty minutes.
- Finish the call before the action starts: a call mid-action is already useless.
- Practise the discomfort: for many young goalkeepers the obstacle is social, not technical.
Progressions
- Increase the distance to 30 metres, the real width of a back line.
- Add background noise — teammates talking, a crowd — which is the game condition.
- Move on to organising the back line, with the call serving a real decision.
Regressions
- Reduce the distance to 10 metres.
- Agree the call in advance, removing the element of choice.
