Volley under time pressure
Maintain correct volley mechanics when preparation time shrinks, with an attacker simulating incoming pressure — the real situation of a counter-attack launch, not comfortable repetition with no time constraint.

An attacker advances toward the goalkeeper, simulating pressure. The goalkeeper has to drop and volley the ball to a distant teammate before the pressure arrives.
Exercise sequence
Coaching points
- Under time pressure, preparation shortens, but support-hip rotation can’t disappear — that’s where quality is lost first.
- Decide the target before the ball touches the foot, not during the action — there’s no time to hesitate under real pressure.
- If there’s no time for a clean volley, a shorter, safer option beats forcing the long ball.
- Recover the base position immediately after the kick, with the attacker still close.
Progressions
- Reduce the available time before pressure arrives further.
- Increase the attacker’s approach speed.
Regressions
- Increase the available time before pressure arrives.
- Reduce the attacker’s approach speed.
